Andros

The Andros Island is known as "The Bone Fishing Capital" of the world. It is the largest island in the Bahamas (104 miles by 40 miles - comprising some 2300 square miles). The population of 6000, even though quite high compared to some of the other islands, ranks as the lowest per unit in all of the Bahamas. It has the third largest barrier reef in the world and the second largest in the northern hemisphere. The island is fairly flat except for some of the coastline. Andros is one of the least explored islands of the Bahamas. Most of the Bahamian people use clothing called "Androsia." This clothing is bright and colorful and is manufactured on this island. This island has many fresh water streams and rivers and with an excess of fresh water, they export many thousands of gallons per day to Nassau, which is lacking fresh water. Divers will love this island due to blue holes, which are water filled cave systems; spectacular coral gardens and underwater caverns. This is a snorkeling and diving underwater wonderland. Anglers come and ply your craft to these challenging game fish. This island is a fisherman's paradise. Birdwatchers will be delighted with over 200 species native to the island. Beachgoers will enjoy the many beaches that line the northeastern coast heading south. Sailing, long walks on a romantic beach, riding a hammock under a sun toasted palm tree, and enjoying the warm and beautiful sunshine all await you here at this tropical jewel.
